Miami Dade College chooses Kahoot! campus-wide to motivate and prepare students for exam success.

Enhanced student engagement across faculties: Miami Dade College (MDC) faculty members report a remarkable surge in student participation and focus after integrating Kahoot! EDU. The introduction of Kahoot! is helping professors across different faculties to transform passive learning into an interactive experience across its diverse academic landscape.
Students are actively learning outside the classroom using Kahoot! as a study guide for their tests: Students are requesting kahoots as study guides, transforming test prep into inactive and self-driven learning experience.
Students are exam-ready with Kahoot!: Faculty members reported stronger exam readiness and improved retention of complex material through gamified review.
Cross-modality success: Kahoot! became a unifying tool across in-person, hybrid, and online classes at Miami Dade College, ensuring consistency and inclusion in learning.

The Challenge: Prioritizing Student Success in Faculty Studies

Miami Dade College (MDC), one of the largest educational institutions in the United States, adopted Kahoot! EDU across its eight campuses in the city of Miami. This integration was primarily aimed at enhancing interactive learning among students across all faculties, aligning with MDC’s commitment to supporting student success in their coursework.

MDC’s Department of Learning Technologies assessed various educational technologies. The goal was to enhance the in-class experience for professors, thereby improving student learning outcomes. However, many faculty members—especially those teaching in person—were new to using gamified instructional technology.

“A primary challenge was ensuring faculty comfort and pedagogical understanding of Kahoot! Many faculty members hadn’t used this type of technology before, so training on using Kahoot! was essential. We observed that well-trained faculty were eager to adopt it, highlighting the importance of overcoming initial discomfort through comprehensive support.”

Nestor Pereira, Vice President for Academic and Learning Technologies, MDC

A crucial factor in the successful adoption of Kahoot! by MDC faculty members is the partnership between MDC’s Center for Institutional and Organizational Learning (CIOL) and Kahoot! This collaboration provided faculty and staff with consistent synchronous and asynchronous courses and resources, helping them explore innovative ways to leverage the use of Kahoot! for improved student learning outcomes.

“If your institution is considering Kahoot!, give it a try. Start small with a few faculty and students, and see the results. Once you experience how it transforms engagement and learning, you’ll quickly see its value.”

Nestor Pereira, Vice President for Academic and Learning Technologies, MDC

The Solution: A one-stop shop for professors to clarify challenging subjects and prepare students for upcoming assessments

MDC initially implemented Kahoot! EDU licensing across all their campuses following a successful pilot program with select faculties. The results were immediate: instructors and professors quickly gained confidence in using Kahoot! for formative assessments and reviews. Meanwhile, students showed increased participation in the classroom, which heightened enthusiasm and led to more active involvement during class discussions.

Today, Kahoot! is fully embedded into MDC’s academic ecosystem, enhancing classes in every modality—in-person, hybrid, and online—and across diverse disciplines.

“Using Kahoot! transforms the classroom atmosphere, especially in person or during asynchronous sessions. It significantly increases student interaction, engagement, and presence with the material. I strongly encourage all faculty to integrate Kahoot! into their classes, whether asynchronous, in-person, or online. It can be a fun activity, a brain break, or a tool for recalling information and gathering feedback. It truly makes a positive difference.”

The Results: Highly motivated students who retain knowledge and have a positive learning experience

Professors from various Miami Dade College (MDC) faculties unanimously report a significant increase in student engagement across disciplines. They also note that students are better able to retain and comprehend complex class concepts. Across courses, from Medical to Humanities, professors are now utilizing Kahoot! to foster a proactive learning environment.

“Students are actually requesting Kahoot! as a study guide. They’ll text or email me on a Friday night before a big test. I’ll create the Kahoot! and assign it in Canvas so they can practice repeatedly over the weekend.”

Chantelle Hall, Professor and Program Director, Respiratory Care Program

This illustrates a deeper level of intrinsic motivation and self-directed engagement previously unseen.

“It’s really fun. You take complex ideas and simplify them into games. It’s a great way to study before exams—you see what you’ll apply before you do it.”

Damaya Joseph, Biology Student

“Without Kahoot!, class could get boring. The visuals and game format push us to stay engaged and do better.”

Eileen, Respiratory Therapy Student

Developing problem-solvers: Professors also report that Kahoot! enhances students’ critical thinking and helps them apply their concepts to real-world situations.

“Apart from memorizing, Kahoot! helps me develop critical life skills. Even when I make errors, I learn how to remain focused, adjust, and utilize criticism constructively, skills that are useful in everyday life as well as in the workplace and in the classroom.”

Fixing learning gaps among students: Kahoot! reports are a valuable tool for faculty and staff at MDC for improving student learning, particularly in situations requiring detailed feedback or when adjusting teaching strategies.

“I use the reports to record attendance and to monitor how the students progress and to address some difficulties and challenges. For example, if I see that they missed up a couple of questions. I grabbed up some concepts from previous Kahoots that the students missed out and luckily with those questions they’re able to answer better next time.”

Why Kahoot! Works for MDC faculty and students?

  • Kahoot! bridges technology and pedagogy: Tailored training among professors has empowered them to integrate Kahoot! as a natural extension of their teaching style. For some of them, the gamified approach

“Kahoot perfectly aligns with my teaching style. I am a strong advocate of gamification, as I believe that a lot can be achieved through games. Today’s generation of students has grown up with social media, and it is essential for teachers to engage and motivate them, creating an enjoyable learning experience in college. I made the decision to use every tool at my disposal to make my classes engaging and motivating while helping students develop the necessary skills through games. Therefore, Kahoot is an ideal fit for my teaching approach.”

Yoelvis Rodríguez, English Professor for Academic Purposes, at MDC
  • Provides better learning outcomes among students: At its core, Kahoot! transforms engagement into tangible learning outcomes. Its game-based approach naturally captivates students, ensuring consistent focus and active participation that directly contributes to improved performance and mastery of complex subjects

Encourages inclusivity across classroom formats: Whether online or in-person, Kahoot! ensures that every student participates actively, fostering a collaborative learning culture regardless of their faculty studies.

“You might think your subject matter isn’t inherently interesting to students, but tools like Kahoot! can spark unexpected engagement. It’s an excellent way to keep students involved and check their understanding. While I enjoy lecturing, it’s great when students can actively participate and have fun. You’d be surprised how much even a 20 or 30-year-old in your classroom will enjoy it.”
