If you played Kahoot! last week, you probably heard the sleigh bells in the snow! We are excited to bring some holiday joy with our new winter theme available for all users along with new seasonal themes for every occasion this holiday season. Take your kahoots up a level and get ready to make end-of-year learning and celebrating with family and friends outside the classroom more fun and festive!

How to set up seasonal themes for your kahoot

To add these themes to your next kahoot, simply:

  • Create a new kahoot
  • Select “Themes” in the top right section of your screen
  • Choose one of the new themes: Winter, Celebration, Christmas, and New Years!
  • Our Winter theme is free for all users
  • Celebration, Christmas, and New Years are available to all Kahoot! Premium, Kahoot! Premium+ and Kahoot! EDU users

Downloadable virtual backgrounds

To tie the ribbon on these new themes, we have also included virtual backgrounds to make your video calls as festive as your kahoots. Download these festive virtual backgrounds and add them to your next video call! Click any image to open it in full size and save it to your computer. Follow these steps for adding virtual backgrounds to Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype, and Google Meet, or check instructions for your video conferencing tool.

How to host a kahoot via a video call and play Kahoot!

Play Kahoot! with your friends and families to have fun together as part of your virtual celebration! To host a kahoot remotely via any video conferencing tool, follow these instructions: 

  • Start your video conference and make sure everyone has joined 
  • In your browser, click Play and Host to launch the kahoot, so the lobby is showing with the game PIN 
  • Share your screen, so those joining remotely can all see the game PIN 
  • Players will need to use their mobile devices to join the game, either via the Kahoot! app or kahoot.it in their browser 
  • Host the kahoot as usual, taking care to not speak over the music that plays during the timer countdown
