Impactful learning experiences

Sean D’Arcy, VP for Kahoot! at school, kicked off the Spring Meetup with Podium-worthy news! A new meta-analysis of independent, peer-reviewed studies says on average, classroom use of Kahoot! improves student performance on tests by a full letter grade! As educators everywhere begin tabulating and tallying semester grades, let’s dive into some of our key takeaways to help you plan powerful lessons in these last few weeks of review season:

 #1 – Time saving tools

In our recent Kahoot! survey, we asked over 2,000 U.S. K-12 teachers about the daily challenges they face in the classrooms. Over a third of teachers indicated that the one thing that would help them most is more time. Not surprised? Neither are we! Efficient teaching tools can truly become a teacher’s best friend, when time is limited between class bells and the shuffle between periods of the school schedule.

To help minimize the classroom chaos,Sean  shared new AI-powered productivity features to make lesson planning and prep even more efficient (and awesome!). Our new question generator helps educators to create kahoots in seconds by auto-generating kahoots from a single text prompt or keyphrase. The best part? Educators and creators can trust that these new lessons are always  up to our Kahoot!-leveled and high standards in quality, relevancy, and accuracy!Together at the Meetup, educators experienced thebrand new AI-enhanced creator feature, makingit possible for educatorsto create kahoots from existing curriculum materials! Whether pulled from a district-mandated curriculum library, or drawn together in past planning sessions, educators can Kahoot!’ify files and documents with a simple drag-and-drop, importing PDFs !into the creator. Then select pages, or upload the whole file, and Kahoot! will generate questions AND answer options, saving you time on planning, boosting student engagement, and giving educators time back in the classroom…all with just a few steps! Now available with Kahoot!+ Max and Kahoot! EDU plans!

Not ready to start from scratch, our library of ready-to-play kahoots, curated by verified educators and partners will soon be easier than ever to find the pre-made kahoots you need for any subject with a new search filter! Jump right into playing, hosting, and sharing on Kahoot! with the already-existing millions of ready-made lessons in kahoots and Courses.

#2 – More ways to play game modes

With more ways to play than ever, educators can level up student engagement with lessons they’ll love by repurposing existing kahoots and lesson material with different game modes. With student-led experiences, educators will find time to support and provide one-on-one instruction. The flexibility and adaptability of these game modes make it possible to meet the diverse needs of mixed-ability classrooms and specialized subjects.

Teacher Ambassadors, Miranda K., Melissa E., and Kaitlyn H., all shared top-tips for refreshing previously taught content via engaging game mode experiences! Our EDU Meetup participants played the largest ever game of Robot Run, with nearly 300 players moving about the space station, outrunning an angry monster by answering questions correctly across independent devices. The YouTube chatstream came alive during these live game mode sessions, one person (username Inspired Impact) exclaimed:

Replaying Kahoots with game modes is such a wonderful idea!

Game modes for self-study scenarios are also available, such as Flashcards, Chill Art, Treasure Trove, and Tallest Tower. These allow students to play and practice independently both in school and at home, without requiring a student account. Coming soon; you’ll be able to assign kahoots with game modes to improve the self-study experience!

#3 – Seamless assessment and review

It can be challenging to understand how our students feel and whether they’re ready to progress to the next lesson. To address this, educators can now collect opinions to facilitate class discussion using the new question-type scale. Cultivate a safe and inclusive learning environment with questions where curiosity is encouraged, ensuring every student feels empowered to participate and be heard by answering how they feel on a specific topic using the well-known Likert scale.

Looking to measure accuracy and precious within Kahoot!? Teacher Ambassador, Glenn C., debuted the new pin answer question type! The points-basedversion of the beloved ‘drop pin’ question type, pinpoints student understanding and challenges answer accuracy in a new and visual way. Educators can gauge students’ understanding of key concepts effectively and visually, with a live-time, populated and pinned visual diagram presented after each prompt!

#4 – Self-paced math games

On Day 2 of the EDU Meetup, and coincidentally Pi Day (March 14), too, Meira took the stage to share all-new self-paced math games from DragonBox! Bridge learning gaps and boost confidence while bringing your class together with Kahoot!’s engaging math games. Simplify complex mathematical concepts through playful game experiences that help each student with math at their speed and level, no matter their level. With a focus on gamification, student engagement remains a top priority. Through exploration, practice, and collaboration, students gain confidence and develop new skills as they play. They bring more ways to practice math concepts such as fractions, multiplications, and algebra, not only in class but also at home with the Kahoot! App. Discover the games on the math page or in the Kahoot! App today!

#5 – Unleash creativity with Kahoot! Sparks

Louisa took the stage to introduce Sparks, enabling teachers to prompt students with creative, open-ended tasks in a fun, scaffolded way. Students first respond to inspirational spark prompts, and those ideas are then shuffled and given to other students. They remix the idea, adding their own details… sparking their own inspiration for a novel idea or solution solution for a creative challenge, expressing themselves through drawing or text. Within a platform and interface students already know and love, players can apply their knowledge, demonstrate an understanding, and solve problems in their own unique way. The flexibility of Sparks prompts and templates make foreasy use in variouscontent areas, classrooms, and curriculums, such as introducing a new topic, using it as an assessment, and as a brainstorming tool…just to name a few!

Designed with inclusivity in mind, Sparks helps build creativity, because there’s no right answer, promoting students’ voice- with many ways to success. Student insights are cultivated toward creative confidence, divergent thinking, and effective evaluation, and also lso sparking moments of laughter and joy in the classroom. Kahoot! Sparks is available only with Kahoot! EDU plans.
