How does Kahoot! keep children safe on their platform?
We’re passionate about maintaining a welcoming environment where children can learn while having fun. To achieve this, we take a number of steps to ensure children enjoy a seamless and safe experience on Kahoot!.
We have a team of moderators in place to remove any inappropriate content they find or that gets flagged by our community. We also limit sharing options, and there is no possibility for children to directly interact with strangers or other children on the Kahoot! website or app. We’re also committed to eradicating any form of bullying on our platform. That’s why we introduced a profanity filter to ensure nicknames do not include any offensive terms. We’ve also partnered with the Ad Council – who created these informative anti-bullying kahoots – on several topics related to child safety.
As a world leader in social learning, we firmly believe that we have a duty to help educate children on a number of social and emotional topics that impact them. We have created a range of educational kahoots in conjunction with our safety partners that address issues such as bullying and online safety.
How does Kahoot! handle child data?
We take our compliance of laws such as The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (U.S.), the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (U.S.), and the General Data Protection Regulation (E.U.) incredibly seriously. We do not knowingly seek or collect personal information for users under the age of 13 (for U.S. users) or 16 (for non-U.S. users). Why does Kahoot! ask children for an email address?
We only collect email addresses so young users can reset their password should the need arise. Upon collection, we permanently alter the email address in our records. This means the email address can only be used for password resets and cannot be reconstructed to contact the child account holder.
Why does Kahoot! ask children for a nickname?
To permit a child account holder to use Kahoot!, we collect a username and password, which are used for login purposes only. Such pseudonym identifiers help restrict the use of persistent identifiers.
Does Kahoot! collect geolocation information?
We limit the geolocation information we collect from child account holders. We can be no more precise than a city-wide area. We do not identify or create a profile of child account holders based on their location.
