Story

Krissy Preble and Allen Quinn found out about Kahoot! from other colleagues and thought it would be a great fit for their upcoming regional training conference with about 175 people.

Let’s face it – risk management, compliance, insurance, and other topics related to real estate services can sometimes be rather complex and dry. However, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices N.E. Prime Properties managed to change it. Not only have they succeeded at making these topics more engaging, but had a standing ovation in some of the sessions in a recent event! Wonder what their secret recipe is? They’re using Kahoot! to liven up team meetings and large events.

Get a standing ovation for risk management

According to Krissy Preble, Marketing Manager, Kahoot! helped them get people far more engaged and excited in their recent annual event around risk management:

“Risk management is not the most fun topic and we used Kahoot! to make it more fun. It worked! You could see the engagement was much higher than the normal level of engagement. There were between 150 to 175 people and we used Kahoot! on two big projector screens. We had a standing ovation from people trying to participate.

Prior to using Kahoot!, we used breakout groups for our annual event. They were good, but tough. You don’t always get as high of a level of participation as you might like. Sometimes people take advantage and leave. So having Kahoot!, people were excited. The music and the game amps up, it’s a game, people feel that vibe and want to be part of it.”

Stimulate engagement in meetings

Allen Quinn, Marketing Director and Regional Manager, shared the company’s experience with using Kahoot! as an engagement tool to help liven up their meetings:

“Kahoot! gives our agents and our company a way to compete and get energetic over topics that can be quite dry. Typically, people have side conversations, get distracted and look at their phones. With Kahoot! – first of all their phones are tied up because they’re answering the questions and paying attention to what’s going on – but really, it creates an immersive experience.

The music really gets people into it and keeps you on the edge of your seat as you have to answer quickly. Before Kahoot!, we took a very traditional model of “get a presenter to talk about a topic, maybe have a little opportunity for Q&A” but it was very one-directional. With Kahoot!, it creates this bi-directional discussion and engagement which is really cool.”

Tips
1

Prepare kahoots in advance
Krissy thinks that the main secret to succeeding with Kahoot! is preparing your games well in advance: “In creating the kahoot, we found the platform very user-friendly. The hardest part was coming up with the actual questions and the answers, the content.”

2

Combine question types and use videos
Allen added that hosting an awesome kahoot only needs a little bit of practice. When it comes to creating games, he pinpointed the following features as his favorites: spreadsheet importer, combining different question types – true/false, slides, polls, and being able to embed videos from YouTube.

3

Not using Kahoot! yet? Start now!
Krissy summed it up: “So, my recommendation for companies that are just starting to use Kahoot!: DO IT! Using it is super simple – don’t shy away from a new system, definitely go in and explore it. We saw great success with it and it definitely worked much better for us than our previous attempts.”
