The 1st Kahoot! Tour de France Cup brought together 1,000+ students worldwide to challenge their knowledge

350 classrooms from over 80 countries around the world registered, and more than 1000 students joined for an epic learning adventure! Discover how the 1st Kahoot! Tour de France Cup delivered heart-pumping fun and inclusive learning of safe cycling, European geography and culture, celebrating the world’s largest cycling race.

On June 5th, classrooms around the world filled with flags, banners, and more to compete in a brand-new live virtual event: the inaugural Kahoot! Tour de France Cup! This friendly Kahoot! game challenged students’ knowledge of safe cycling practices, as well as the cultures and landscapes of Europe. It was a race to the podium, but it wasn’t just about points. Together, educators and students fostered team spirit, connected with other learners globally, and showed the world that curiosity and learning have no borders.

An educational adventure welcoming students worldwide

Over 1,000 students across more than 80 countries competed in the 1st Kahoot! Tour de France Cup, with teachers leading their classrooms to join the live session via Zoom. In the kahoot, the questions and answers were designed in a unique way: no text! Both only contained images and emojis, meaning the kahoot had no language barrier. This created a more inclusive and accessible experience for learners internationally, making it easy for any class to compete, no matter their language.

“…kids were able to follow the symbols and questions with a little promoting from me. The children loved competing with the global audience and now they are impressing their parents with their knowledge!” Steve Sherman, teacher in South Africa

1st Kahoot! Tour de France Cup kahoot question on cycling

With no Tour de France race knowledge needed, the event welcomed everyone from the cycling curious to Tour de France super fans, going beyond race trivia to offer a meaningful educational challenge of students’ geography and safety knowledge. All students received a certificate confirming their participation, and an exclusive Tour de France Cup prize was awarded to the winners. Classrooms from Romania secured the top two spots on the Kahoot! podium, with a classroom from Belgium crossing the finish line in third! Beyond scores, however, the event celebrated what we can all share and value: discovery, sport, and a healthy, active lifestyle.

A new spin on the Kahoot! Cup

This event was inspired by the Kahoot! Cup, an annual learning event created by educator and Kahoot! Ambassador Steve Auslander. Since it began in 2017, the Kahoot! Cup has brought together thousands of students worldwide with the idea that we are, “more alike than we are different.”

This year,  Kahoot! teamed up with the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift to shift learning into high gear. The 1st Kahoot! Tour de France Cup gave students a new way to flex their knowledge and share the joy of learning while getting into the spirit of the race!

Kahoot! was first announced as the Official Digital Interactive Learning Platform of the men’s and women’s Tour de France last year, engaging learners globally with cycling-themed kahoots, daily challenges, and live sessions at the events. During the races, more than 200k participants (non-unique) from 150+ countries played the Tour de France kahoots and daily challenges.
