Generation Z already makes up over a quarter of the global workforce, and is expected to become the largest generation in the labor force within the next 10 years. This makes understanding Gen Z’s needs, goals, and strengths essential for any organization building for future success. Gen Z workers are facing challenges in the workplace, but they are also bringing fresh ideas, perspectives, and motivations to their organizations and the corporate world.
To gain insights into Gen Z’s workplace reality and how companies can support their growth, we collaborated with OnePoll to survey 2,000 office workers in the UK from 21-25 years old. These first findings make up part 1 of a two-part report, Gen Z One Year Into Work, digging deep into Gen Z’s work challenges and opportunities. Download the free report to get access to part 1’s full findings, and stay tuned to Kahoot! for part 2 in early 2026.

Gen Z workers feel out of their depth as they grapple with job tasks and expectations
As the first ‘digital-native’ generation,’ Gen Z is known for impressive skills and comfort with technology, having grown up with smartphones, social media, and beyond. However, while this does put Gen Z employees ahead in adapting to new technologies – even stepping into the role of training their older colleagues in how to use them – 2 in 3 Gen Z employees admit they feel ill-equipped to handle their work responsibilities. Many also reported feeling unprepared for key areas of work life and lacking in foundational professional skills, underscoring a need for training that is responsive to Gen Z’s skill gaps and learning styles.
With Kahoot! 360’s easy-to-use tools, you can motivate Gen Z workers to complete training and keep them engaged from beginning to end with interactivity and friendly competition. You can also help younger professionals and other new hires get up to speed fast with onboarding, and keep the entire team up to date with stories for bite-sized, engaging updates.
Generational tensions are bubbling, but apathy is not Gen Z’s issue
While each new generation entering the workforce brings their own approach, Gen Z employees are feeling the pushback to their ways of working. Among those surveyed, 44% of Gen Z office workers say they have faced criticism from older colleagues because of their age. This criticism was not about apathy, however, as the media often characterizes younger employees. The largest number (47%) reported criticism for being “too passionate” or outspoken. At the same time, a stunning 73% of Gen Z workers surveyed say they feel engaged at work right now, underlining the energy and passion Gen Z are bringing to the workplace.
As teams evolve with new workers, bridge generational divides by sparking communication and collaboration.
