The workplace has evolved rapidly over the last few years, driven not only by innovations in technology, but also by the rise of Gen Z. As the first generation of true digital natives, Gen Z are entering the workforce with new perspectives, skills, and values, and understanding how to help younger employees reach their full potential is critical to businesses’ future success. With Gen Z set to become the largest generation in the workforce by 2035, organizations that want to win tomorrow are investing in Gen Z workers’ growth and development today.
To learn more about Gen Z employees’ first experiences in the workplace and how businesses can help them thrive, we collaborated with OnePoll to survey 2,000 UK office workers from 21-25 years old. In part 1 of the report, we explored how Gen Z workers are adapting to office life, skills they feel they’re lacking, and other challenges and opportunities for Gen Z at work. These new findings conclude the two-part report, showcasing what drives younger professionals, how many employers are failing to equip Gen Z to succeed, and how organizations can better design training to resonate with Gen Z workers. Gen Z workers are changing workplace expectations
As new entrants to the workforce, many Gen Z employees find themselves with challenging workloads, and may not yet have the skills to complete all their tasks. Nearly 9 in 10 Gen Z workers report working overtime, and 6 in 10 have used AI to complete tasks because they felt undertrained. As Gen Z employees face these time pressures, 44% name healthy work-life balance as the top contributor to job satisfaction, while nearly one-third say learning and development opportunities are most important.

Transforming training to engage and equip Gen Z
While Gen Z professionals have clearly shown the need for more learning support, only 27% describe their company’s mandatory workplace training as engaging. When asked what their employer could improve about their training process, the largest share (43%) call for more engaging or motivating content. Nearly 3 in 4 Gen Z workers also say they are more likely to engage with content at work if it includes friendly competition, challenges, or other gamification elements.
