The COVID-19 lockdown has made 2020 a challenging year for sports. Games, practices, and group trainings have been cancelled—both for professional teams and student athletes—and teams are struggling to find ways of keeping players on track with their fitness, learning, and team building goals.

Fútbol Club Barcelona B (commonly known as Barça B), the reserve team of FC Barcelona, recently turned to Kahoot! to help reconnect players and staff. After building their custom Kahoot! quiz, complete with video clips and diagrams of plays, the team’s technical staff hosted a virtual championship to quiz players and staff members on team trivia, strategy, and tactics of gameplay.

Student athletes at Barça Academies (FC Barcelona’s partner soccer academies for youth) have also been rocked by the cancellation of their 9th edition Barça Academy World Cup, originally scheduled for April 6th. With 20,000 young athletes spread across over 20 countries, Barça Academy coaches have had to quickly transition to remote training.

Along with exercise videos for at-home fitness routines, replays of notable games, and online discussions, Barça Academies are now using Kahoot! to engage their young players and teach them about the history of FC Barcelona. Students participating in Barça Academy’s Kahoot! quizzes learn about the club’s founding, outstanding players and leaders, and highlights from the club’s 120 year history.
