The following is a contributed article from Cara and John Ellman-Yuan:
For most newlyweds, filling out the marriage certificate is the least exciting part of the wedding day. But for us, we turned it into a Kahoot! competition that neither we or our friends will forget!
It all started last month, when we officially got married at home in Missouri. We gathered our tight-knit group of friends, and our close friend Emily officiated. When it came time to choose two of our friends to sign the marriage license as witnesses, however, we took the opportunity to have some fun and get everyone involved. We created a kahoot that put our friends’ knowledge of us to the ultimate test, and the winners were invited to sign their names! As you can see in the photo below, everyone locked in and concentrated on bringing their A-game to the competition.
After Emily shared this on social media, it ended up being featured on PEOPLE! Lots of people have shared with us that they love the idea of doing something different and fun like this at a wedding, or any celebration. So, we want to share with you our tips to make it a success, as well as ideas to add fun and good vibes to more activities and events!
1. Tie the knot with a wedding quiz
Weddings may be a time to celebrate unions and togetherness, but sometimes stirring up a little friendly competition is the best way to do that. For our wedding quiz, we created a personalized kahoot with questions about each of us individually, questions about us as a couple, and of course—questions about our cats! And while our wedding guests were already friends with each other, playing together would also be a great way to get everyone involved and interacting at any wedding. From little cousins to grandparents, anyone can have fun playing Kahoot!
Host your kahoot during the reception to open the quiz to the whole crowd, or challenge your closest friends or family during the rehearsal dinner or your bachelor/bachelorette parties.
2. Mix it up on date night or Valentine’s Day
With Valentine’s Day here, lots of couples are looking for a memorable way to celebrate the holiday together. Or, maybe you’re just searching for a fresh date night activity for any time of the year. You may be used to playing Kahoot! in a group, but it can be just as fun to challenge your sweetheart to a friendly 1v1 showdown. This can also be a fun activity to do together over a video call if you can’t be together in person. Create a kahoot with personalized questions, or choose a ready-to-play quiz on your favorite trivia topics. Add the Valentine’s Day theme for even more atmosphere, and let the games begin!
3. Break the ice on a first date
As the saying goes, people who play together, stay together. Okay, no promises, but playing Kahoot! can be an awesome way to get to know each other better, and a much more fun first date icebreaker than the same old basic get-to-know-you questions. If both of you are up for the challenge, each of you can create a “selfie kahoot” filled with trivia questions that you feel capture your personality. Then, each of you can play the other’s kahoot during your date—or even beforehand for a virtual teaser—to learn something new about each other!
4. Build an island with the power of friendship on Kahootopia
Friendship can feel like it can move mountains, but did you know it can also build islands? In Kahootopia, it can! Kahootopia is a new game that invites you to create a customizable group island and play kahoots to earn collective rewards, such as buildings and other features to personalize your island. If your friend group is split on preferring competitive or cooperative games, this can be a great way to strike a balance, sparking friendly competition while working toward a shared goal. By playing Kahootopia with your friends, you can keep the fun going all throughout game night, or return to your island each week to play and level up together!
5. Celebrate self love with Kahoot!
Don’t forget to show yourself some love too! With millions of ready-to-play kahoots available on nearly every topic under the sun, you can kick back and enjoy a quiet evening at home following your curiosity and learning about whatever interests you. Music, art, science, even places you want to travel to! Just press the “Play solo” button to test your knowledge in classic mode, or try out one of the new game modes—like Treasure Trove, Chill Art, or Tallest Tower—to add even more excitement!
Whether you’re celebrating the love you share with your partner, friends, family, or yourself, you can make it even more awesome with Kahoot!. Learn more about how you can add Kahoot! fun to your next celebration, gathering, or party!
