Over the years, multiple studies have confirmed the impact of Kahoot! on learning, both in terms of effect, engagement, and motivation. A recent study conducted among 274 medical students at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, explored the potential of technology-assisted assessment through the Kahoot! platform. The study concluded that, “Kahoot! increased student engagement and motivation, and improved academic achievements in a practical pharmacology course.”
64% of participants agreed that Kahoot! motivated them to learn more, and 61% believed that it improved their attendance and participation in class, while nearly 70% of participants agreed that Kahoot! was an effective learning tool. The researchers, Lana Shawwa and Fatemah Kamel, both faculty members at King Abdulaziz University, further conclude in their research paper that they “recommend that medical schools (…) use Kahoot! in lectures, tutorials, and problem-based learning activities for effective formative feedback.”
This new research further supports the link between student engagement and academic performance, including in higher education environments such as medical school, which we have explored in previous conversations with medical educators globally.
