As we close in on the first half of 2022, I am excited to announce that the core Kahoot! platform has reached 8 billion non-unique cumulative participants since we launched in 2013!

2022 has been a challenging year for many. The first half of 2022 has been colored by a series of compounding challenges, from ongoing impacts of the pandemic to international conflicts, global inflation and more, causing both economic uncertainty and disruptions to people’s everyday lives and well-being.

In the past six months, businesses globally are continuing to re-imagine the workplace with changing work conditions — optimizing for hybrid and remote models and leveraging technology to create experiences that are even more dynamic, engaging and accessible for all team members.

Similarly – in education, schools and educators are planning for the upcoming back to school season and re-adjusting to the post-pandemic needs of their teachers and students. Educators are discovering new ways of using digital platforms to power up learning in the classroom, as well as realizing the importance of putting students at the center of learning to encourage more engagement and participation.

At the Kahoot! Group, we are in a unique position to provide our users, both free and paid, with steadily more diverse and robust learning and engagement offerings through consistent innovation in our product design and development of new solutions. We are pleased to continue growing both our global subscriber base and financial solidity this year to fuel our next steps as a Group, as well as reaching another milestone of 8 billion non-unique participants on the core Kahoot! service.

Evolution from quiz to software platform for learning and engagement

When our journey began at launch in 2013, we were instantly loved as a quiz and trivia platform that soared to massive popularity. In 2018, we embarked on our initial commercialization journey by offering our first paid editions for different user segments from teachers to businesses to social users and families.

In the last couple of years, we have been completing strategic acquisitions to build out a learning platform with wider offerings from our acquisitions and continue to invest in organic growth through our products, better services, value and scale. Today, Kahoot! has built on its foundation as an effective quiz and trivia tool to emerge as a fully-scaled learning and engagement platform for varied audiences including businesses, educators and educational institutions, as well as families and friends.

We have users in more than 200 countries and regions, and our global presence has continuously expanded through localizing our services for several regions and languages, now reaching 15 languages, the latest additions being Arabic, Simplified and Traditional Chinese and Ukrainian. This has made Kahoot! more accessible to millions of learners of all ages globally!

Delivering innovation and supporting next-level learning worldwide

This year, we have introduced an exciting new slate of initiatives, new features, events and more for our users in all segments. We began 2022 by responding to the teacher shortage in the U.S. with the Kahoot! EDU Support Program where over 4K schools participated. Kahoot! also offered free EDU licenses to teachers and schools in Ukraine to support students and other learners affected by the war to connect and continue learning. To support young learners and families, we made Kahoot! Kids — a playful app experience for early childhood learning—available in eight languages, and launched Kahoot! Multiplication by DragonBox to turn learning the times tables into a captivating game experience.

For business users, we delivered robust solutions for corporate learning, employee engagement and communication through Kahoot! 360 to more enterprises than ever, and built synergies between Kahoot!, Actimo and Motimate to bring Enterprise customers even more holistic solutions. We also launched customizable Themes and the new Slider question type, as well as integrating with Vimeo, to enable all users to create more dynamic learning and engagement experiences.

As we continue in our forward momentum, we have been honored to see Kahoot! recognized as a top business technology solution in the G2 Spring 2022 Report, the Capterra Shortlist and the TrustRadius “Best of Awards.” LearnPlatform’s recent EdTech Top 40 also named Kahoot! and Clever in the top 7 most widely-used EdTech solutions in the U.S., only surpassed by Google services.

Significant headroom for growth in second half of 2022

With an energizing start for Kahoot! for 2022, we are looking forward to even more exciting initiatives we have planned for the rest of the year. We have some great feature updates on the platform, for both free and paid users, as we head into the busy Back to School and Back to Work seasons in the fall.

At our recent Kahoot! EDU Summit, thousands of educators globally heard from us and our key partners such as Apple, Google, Microsoft and more for a sneak peek at what’s on the horizon for educators and students. We look forward to sharing more about exciting new updates and experiences for business and social users, so stay tuned!

One of our priorities this year is to further scale and develop Kahoot! Marketplace, which will enable educators and creators  to monetize and share their content with potentially millions of learners and learning providers around the world. We’re also looking forward to working on new opportunities with Clever — the newest member of the Kahoot! Group and one of the most widely-used digital learning platforms in U.S. K-12 schools — kicking off Clever’s international expansion. For corporate users, we are working toward unifying our offerings across the Kahoot! Group through finalizing the integration of the Motimate and Actimo platforms, as well as developing customized branding for larger organizations.
